KIDS WATCH, IMITATE AND ADORE YOU

Gambia – When I signed up to volunteer in the Gambia, I did not even imagine, what this country and people would leave in my heart.

The country is warm, hot and gorgeous. The people are full of warmth; they are open, protective and friendly. I do not know if one could grasp how many nice people you can meet in one day. People are willing to talk, walk and run with you, or do whatever you wish in that particular moment.

Children are a world unto itself. In the Gambia, I have experienced more hugs, smiles, mischief, and joyous songs and dances than anywhere else. Children are like sponges. They watch your every move, every word, they repeat and remember it in an instant. There is so much thirst for knowledge, new experiences in movement, creativity, rhythm… They watch you, imitate you and love you. You cannot not love them. You cannot help but to open at least a little; open up and let love flow. I will never forget them. I know that they gave me much more than I could have given to them, I know they are blank slates, waiting for knowledge, waiting for new opportunities, waiting for people to help them… If you want to help these children and awaken your inner child, send them a gift or pay them a visit. You will definitely not regret it.
